United States

While the Native American corns originated largely in the U.S., I separated them into different pages. The corns here are acclimated fine to the U.S. climate as they also came from the U.S. Many of what are listed here are family heirlooms or local varieties. Most will be dent or flints but a few flours may be included. The U.S. is known for its Corn Belt Dents, which I hope to add to my collection this year and the coming years. Reid's Yellow Dent was the most famous, a chance cross by a famer who lost half his corn and replanted it with another variety. This landrace was widely grown and soon showed at the 1893 Chicago World Corn Show and Fair, where its popularity grew rapidly. Numerous strains of this now exist, and my family has their own which I now maintain that orignated from the 1893 Corn Show.
