A very, very special never before seen form of the Chullpi landrace from Peru, which is the ancestor to ALL modern sweet corn, even in Mexico. Not as late or tall as sweet corn Chullpi, this population from Huancavelica (one of Chullpi's centers of dispersal) is a more primitive, early form of the sweet corn ancestor. Red and white cobbed ears of white and reddish, popcorn like and large kernels are born on 4-5 inch ears with at least one per stalk. This form is probably closest to the Proto-Chullpi, the ancient form of Chullpi, that had floury and popcorn like kernels since it originated from hybrid population of the now extinct Confite Chavinense and still existent Confite Morocho. Chullpi itself has underwent very little change for at least 1000 years, and it is very rare to even find one still closest to the primitive forms. All sweet corn is a mutation from the popcorn and flour corns that existed before this. The growing out of so many allowed mutations to give way to a sweet.
