A very, very stunning and unique landrace from Peru. Pisccorunto, spelled various ways  (Pesccoc-runtum, Pisccoruntu, Hank ' a Sara, Chuspi, )according to where it comes from, means "speckled" or "bird eggs", referring to the large kernels on 4-5 inch long ears that have white, yellow, pink, red, and other shades of colors with purple splotches and speckles. Commonly the kernels are white and speckled. The plants average between 5-6 feet tall with shorter, grenade shaped ears. Considered early in maturity and silking. This stunning landrace is used for toasted corn called cancha/kancha as well as flour for pudding, soups, breads, and other desserts. It hails most frequently from the Departments of Apurimac and Cuzco in their southern Sierra region at altitudes of close to 10,000 feet. It's grown in small plots or selected for various segregations and is the ear type prized only secondly to that of Chullpi for roasting/parching.
