Medium to tall height, usually tall and early to medium in maturity. It's grown mainly in the Department of Cundinamarca but a few farmers are still growing it in Tolima and Huila. Only some is found in Narino and Valle. A primitive popcorn, this is the smallest seeded race of any in Colombia. It may be related to Confite Morocho and Confite Puntiagudo, but the ears of Pira are cylindrical or more so cigar-shaped and certain characteristics of the kernels. Rare where it's from since it is seldom found in pure form, it had to be once more wide spread as it has been collected in Venezuela, Bolivia, and separated localities in Colombia.
