A unique and beautiful landrace from Guatemala that translate into "Black of the Hot Land".  After the primitive Nal-Tel divided itself into subraces, other more highly evolved races from South America were introduced. They became established in the Guatemalan agricultural economy as well as hybridizing with other races and teosinte. Negro de Tierra Caliente hails from 11 Guatemalan departments at altitudes of 128-3500 feet, in the regions known as Tierra Caliente, known for its very hot, very humid, and usually wet environment. The parent race, as this is a sub race of Negro de Chimaltenango, crossed with other lowland races to create this very subrace. This 5-6 foot tall landrace has 6-7 inch ears of a beautiful dark blue kernels that also have natural white and yellow kernels mixed in as well, showing the hybrid parentage this landrace has.
