A medium to tall landrace with stunning floury kernels that are usually a bright, fluorescent olive green color. Forms exist though of fluorescent yellow, red, and other various colors. It is restricted to the Huarmey Valley on the Central Coast in the Department of Ancash. The name is of Quechua origin, which translates into corn malt. The corn is used for this purpose; it's germinated, then sun dried for making chicha.
