A rare and late-maturing landrace with sturdy and tall plants and large ears of white, yellow, red and blue kernels as well as good yield potential. It's grown in the mountainous areas with high clouds in downtown Veracruz and adjacent areas in the Sierra Norte de Puebla. Originally collected near the town of Coscomatepec, from which its name was taken. Commonly used for tortillas, tamales and atole.
