Collected in Lima, Peru this is a half flour/half sweet kerneled form of Chullpi. Just like Tacna Chullpi , this is a floury form of the ancestral sweetcorn landrace. Many of the ancient races like this and the popcorns have flour forms as well, showing both their ancientness and diversity in color and forms. Tall plants (2015 mine reached 22 feet tall) with the classic globe/grenade shaped ears. Chullpi is THE ancestor to ALL sweetcorn. Genetic studies have proved this and the Maize Dulce of Mexico is an introduction of Chullpi to Mexico. This landrace is usually tall, showing how far we have come with sweetcorn. Sweetcorn wasn't very popular at first, as the seed did not store long and there weren't uses for it just yet. It soon blossomed into a very scared maize and it is still considered special in Peru. It's often planted in the center of the field with other maize around it to keep thieves from stealing the ears and seed. Mutations in Peru flour and popcorn led to this sweetcorn.
