A medium to tall landrace with 8 rowed ears of beautiful reddish orange colored kernels. Usually 2-3 ears per stalk but as seen in some landraces, they may produce multiple ears that are clustered together. Popcorns usually do this if an ear is damaged or is not pollinated. Pretty wind tolerant and is well rooted to be a highland landrace. It's known from the Departments of San Marcos, Solola, and Chimeltenango at altitudes of 7100-8300 feet. This landrace is the only subrace of Nal-Tel that still bears eight-rows just like the prehistoric cobs found in La Perra Cave in Mexico. Ocho might be no more than a subrace where these primitive characteristics have persisted.
