An early and medium short landrace that used to be very common but had dwindled down to being rare. It's initial discovery and naming in 1951 considered it the common corn of the Oaxaca Valley but in the sixty something years since it has lost production likely through GMO hybrid growing and contamination of it into this landrace. It's likely of more recent origin since there's no ancient representation or evidence of it. Bolita in Spanish means "little ball" and refers to the round appearance of the ear when enclosed in its husks.
