The sacred maize of the Huichol people of Nayarit and Durango Cora. The elongated, semi-ellpitical ears have multicolored kernels ranging from white to pink and dark purple with many being speckled. Possibly the source of speckled Native American maize. Besides being used for cookies, fermented/boiled gruel, dried corn that is re-hydrated in stews, it is also used for ceremonial and religious purposes. It's cultivated mainly in Nayarit, Jalisco and Durango but variations are also found in Zacatecas and Chihuahua.
